Learn when to replace your Strider 14x kickstand and how to install it step by step. Keep your child's balance bike upright and out of the dirt.
Quick answer
Replace your Strider 14x kickstand when it no longer holds the bike upright or shows visible wear. Installation takes about 5 minutes with just a 4mm hex key.
When to replace the kickstand
The Strider 14x kickstand is a simple accessory, but it can wear out over time. Common signs it needs replacement include the kickstand no longer holding the bike upright, a bent or loose arm, or stripped mounting bolts. If your child's bike keeps tipping over even on flat ground, it's time for a new kickstand.
The original kickstand is designed for the 14x Convertible Bike frame. If you've upgraded wheels or tires, the kickstand may still fit, but check that the mounting bracket aligns properly. A loose fit can cause the kickstand to drag or fail.
Tools you'll need
You only need a 4mm hex key (Allen wrench) for this job. No other tools are required. If you don't have one, a basic multi-tool with a 4mm hex bit works fine.
Step-by-step installation
- Remove the old kickstand: Use a 4mm hex key to loosen and remove the two bolts securing the kickstand bracket to the frame. Slide the kickstand off the frame. If the bolts are stuck, apply a drop of penetrating oil and wait 5 minutes. Check the old bolts for thread damage; replace them if they look worn.
- Position the new kickstand: Place the new Strider 14x kickstand bracket against the frame on the left side (non-drive side). Align the two mounting holes with the frame holes. The kickstand arm should swing freely without rubbing the frame. Do not overtighten yet—the bracket needs slight movement to align properly.
- Install and tighten the bolts: Insert both bolts and tighten them with the 4mm hex key until snug. Do not overtighten—the bracket should be secure but not so tight that it deforms the frame or cracks the bracket. A good rule: tighten until you feel resistance, then give a quarter turn more. Test the kickstand by flipping it down and up a few times. If it binds, loosen the bolts slightly and reposition.
- Test the kickstand on flat ground: Place the bike on a level surface and flip the kickstand down. The bike should stand upright without leaning. If it tips, adjust the kickstand angle by loosening the bolts, rotating the bracket slightly, and retightening. A properly installed kickstand holds the bike steady even with a child sitting on it.
